Here’s The 411 On SPF And Sunscreens!

There are plenty of people out there who feel that they really don’t need sunscreen – after all, they step out only early in the morning or they are out for hardly a few minutes, before they step into their office. But the truth is that the rays of the sun are far more powerful than you can imagine and you need to make sure that you always, always use a good quality sunscreen for your face and even the rest of your body.

  • Let’s start with the basics – what is a sunscreen and what is SPF?

A sunscreen is basically a skin care product – it could be in the form of a cream, lotion, serum or spray – that creates a barrier on your skin, ensuring that the ultraviolet radiation is not able to penetrate and cause any damage. Studies have shown that excessive exposure to the sun can cause not only sun burns, but also more serious problems like skin cancer.

SPF stands for Sun Protection Factor and is a term that you will see on every sunscreen packaging. The count refers to a measurement that tells you how well the sunscreen can protect you. Although the truth about sunscreen SPF is that it cannot provide you with absolute or complete protection, it can protect you to a great extent. So:

  • SPF 15 = protection against 93% of UVB rays
  • SPF 30 = protection against 97% of UVB rays
  • SPF 50 = protection against 98% of UVB rays
  • SPF 100 = protection against 99% of UVB rays

This is one of the reasons why, even if you apply sunscreen, you are asked to wear protective clothing such as long sleeves or hats and you are also asked to reapply on a regular basis. It is also important to remember that simply because you are using a good quality sunscreen, does not mean that you can stay out in the sun indefinitely!

  • How do you choose and buy sunscreen?

Go to your nearest pharmacy and chances are that you will find an entire aisle that is all about sunscreen; but how do you pick one that will work best for you? If you are looking for something that you can use on a daily basis that anything above SPF 30 should work for you, but if you are someone who spends a majority of the day out in the sun, then you might need something stronger.

At indē wild, we bring to you AM Sunscreen Glow Drops, which have 12% zinc oxide and has an SPF of 50 PA++++!

Now, it would be natural to wonder what PA++++ is – when you look at the SPF count, you are actually looking at UVB protection, but what about UVA protection? PA stands for Protection Grade of UVA and each plus symbol denotes how much UVA protection the product can offer, with quadruple plus signs designating the highest level of protection.

This means that our sunscreen not only has an SPF higher than 30, it can also offer you broad spectrum protection (it will protect you against both UVA and UVB). And then there is the fact that this product is water resistant and leaves absolutely no white cast, making this the perfect sunscreen for you.

  • Finally, let’s move onto some of the most commonly asked questions about sunscreen:
  • Why can’t I just use makeup that has SPF?

Even if the product says that it has the amount of SPF you need, you will actually have to apply so much more makeup to get the required layer of protection. Isn’t it just easier to use a proper sunscreen, like our glow drops, which are so easy to use and easy on the skin too!

  • How much do I need?

Just read the label – all the instructions you need should be right there!

  • Should I apply sunscreen before or after applying makeup?

With indē wild’s AM Sunscreen Glow Drops, you get double benefit; you can either use the SPF 50 sunscreen as a primer before you apply your makeup or you can use it as a finishing touch to give your skin that dewy glow!

  • Should I go for chemical or mineral?

Although both chemical and mineral formulations are known to work well, studies have shown that for people who have sensitive skin, mineral sunscreens are better. Our formulation has zinc oxide, alongside Centella and niacinamide, which will give you benefits that go beyond just sun protection!

If you are looking for one of the best sunscreen for your face, we suggest that you check out our Glow Drops – apply it about 15 to 30 minutes before stepping out and enjoy the warm glow of the sun and the radiance of your own skin!
